The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club has supported Safe Passage/Camino Seguro, an educational support program that makes it possible for 550 children whose parents are pickers on the dump in Guatemala City, to go to school and become the first generation of their families who are gaining literacy.  Members of the Club have volunteered at the program and helped the children with their schoolwork and studies; we have also taken advantage of the Rotary Foundation matching grants to purchase two 15-passenger vans for the program and also to build a playground for these kids.

We were quite pleased when an article about our work at Safe Passage appeared in the Rotarian magazine in July 2007.

And we know that Safe Passage changes lives in Maine as well as in Guatemala.
