MARTY PEAK HELMAN TO BE A ROTARY FOUNDATION TRUSTEE WORLDWIDE!

Boothbay Harbor Rotarians are excited, honored, and proud that Marty Peak Helman has just been selected to serve as a member of the Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2022. Marty will serve on the sixteen-person Board that manages the global business of The Rotary Foundation, which is the charitable arm of Rotary International. The Rotary International president-elect nominates the trustees, who are elected by the RI Board of Directors to four-year terms.

Marty and her husband Frank Helman joined the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club 18 years ago, when they walked in on their own to our Rotary located then between Oak Street and Townsend Avenues.  Marty served as club president in 2006-07, and that year initiated our first Veterans Appreciation night. That was also the year we created a separate Boutique at the annual club Auction. Marty served as District 7780 Governor in 2012-13.

Marty’s Rotary passion is the Rotary Peace Centers, and she has served for six years on The Rotary Foundation’s Peace-Major Gift Initiative, culminating in her term as chair in 2019-20.

Back here in District 7780, she has continued many other Rotary passions, such as serving in numerous positions including District Foundation Chair and Growth Chair. She is also a frequent speaker at district, president elect, and club events on Foundation and Growth topics.

Only two other District 7780 Rotarians have previously served as Rotary International Trustee: Mike McGovern from South-Portland Cape Elizabeth and Brenda Cressey from the Ogunquit Club, both of whom went on to be Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees.  Brenda also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Marty has exceeded all the odds, one of only sixteen members to manage Rotary globally, out of one million four hundred thousand Rotarians worldwide. And hailing from our rural Boothbay Harbor Rotary of roughly sixty members, where she will continue to make a huge difference in so many lives. Marty epitomizes thinking and acting locally and globally. Staggering and awesome! Congratulations, Marty!
