The Rotary Club third (or maybe second) annual Oktoberfest was the perfect way to cap off a busy, fun and productive summer together.  We feasted in our Bavarian (or fake Barvarian) costumes on pretzels, bratwurst, cabbage, sauerkraut and of course beer.  We played cornhole toss, Count the Jelly Beans, throw a tiny ball at the shiny glasses and everyone's favorite, "Splat the Rat '' imported from England by "fun" master Karen Pritchard.  There were "fabulous" prizes for the winners.  Of course, the best and most fabulous prize is just the opportunity to just be together, laughing, visiting and having fun. We work hard together, get a lot done, make a difference locally and in the world.  We all truly enjoy one another and the laughter and din of conversation at Oktoberfest is proof of that.

This Thursday we are hearing about a new local program  ."The American Legion Veterans Banner Program is new, and designed to honor military veterans from the 4 Boothbay Peninsula towns.  Jim Singer is the committee Chairman, and along with Sue Burge and Phil Chapman they will explain what the program is all about.  Starting this November,  62 30" x 60' full color banners will appear on telephone poles depicting local veterans or their relatives from 1941 to the present.  The banners will come down for the winter, but they will appear next May along with all the new orders and remain displayed through Veterans Day in November. They are very excited to share the details of the program with us!"

We’re hoping to keep Rotary barn open till December, so we’re still taking donations of gently used pots/pans, silverware, tools, boats, furniture and Christmas decorations.  You name it, we'll probably take it.  Just text Deb at 207-380-3550 to arrange a pick up or drop off.

If you're interested in the fun and work of Rotary, join us any Thursday at 6:00 pm at our Clubhouse, 66 Montgomery Rd, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.  We look forward to meeting you.
