Food Security Progress Report

Sure has been a great summer week, warm, sunny days perfect for being outside enjoying your family, friends or all those summer visitors from away.  But, the clubhouse is lonely without us, so we’re meeting again this Thursday 7/14.  Bring all those family members, friends and visitors from away.  They will have as much fun as we do.  Might make them want to join their local Rotary Club.

Also, and most importantly, this is the first solo meeting for President Bruce Harris.  Hooray, Bruce.  Don’t miss the chance to welcome Bruce in his new role.

In 2020 we received a $10,000 District Grant focusing on local Food Security.  It was the start of the pandemic, timing couldn’t have been better.  Part of the grant included an assessment of local factors that contributed to Food Security in hopes of targeting our energy to where it would be most effective.  The Food Pantry Soup program was one of the programs initiated through this grant.  Because of the foresight and hard work of the Grant writing team, we have delivered almost 80 pints of soup monthly to our local Food Pantry for over a year and a half.

So, Thursday night Cathy Fisher and Margi Spratt will give a brief synopsis of the results of the food security report.  Vic Taylor and Judi White will update the club on the food security council and current planning. We will also be joined by Erica Berman, Veggies to Table, to talk about how that program is impacting the food challenges in Lincoln County.

Addressing and working toward food security is a primary focus of our club.  Join us Thursday night to hear the progress we’ve made and possible new initiatives to address this issue.

The Big, Gray, Rotary Barn welcomes donations of gently used furniture, household goods, pots/pans, glasses, rugs, even boats, collectibles, just about anything.  Contact Deb at 207-380-3550 to arrange a pickup or drop off.  The Barn is located at 55 Montgomery Rd and is  open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11:00.  Food Security is one of the programs supported by your donation to and purchase at the Big, Gray Rotary Barn.

Judi deGraw is looking for a car to borrow starting July 25 through July 29th.  Her car will be at the shop.  She says there are no rental cars available, so she needs our help.  Call her at 207-315-0217 if you can help.

The newly formed Program Committee is looking for programming ideas.  If one comes to mind just text Irene at 207-315-5429 before it slips away.  No time like the present they say.

See you Thursday.
