Spring has Sprung

The spring peepers are singing and I have a gorgeous daffodil bouquet from my garden on my coffee table.  It’s a wonderful time to live in Maine, lucky us.

We’re also lucky because the Rotary Club big grey barn is open for it’s second season.  Come visit, come volunteer.  The barn will be open every Saturday between 8:30 to 11:00.  It’s a great chance to find just the thing you’ve been looking for and didn’t know you needed.  You just never know what you’re going to find there.  It’s also a wonderful opportunity to visit with your Rotary friends and meet new ones too.

Join Us this Thursday at 6PM via “Zoom” when Retired US Navy Commander David Patch will talk about some of the recent challenges and successes for our local veterans.  He is the Commander of the Boothbay American Legion, where you can now get a wonderful breakfast every Sunday from 7 to 9am, yumm.  Commander Patch is very knowledgeable about Veteran affairs and active in assisting our local Veterans.  Our community is so fortunate to have his knowledge and dedication to our veterans.  So, join us this Thursday.  We couldn’t hold our Veterans’ Dinner this year and officially thank our Veterans for their service.  But, we can thank David Patch for all he does for them.

Onions, onions, who doesn’t want Onions.  Get your orders in to Doug Harley by April 24th.  Many of my friends want a half a box, so I just pair them with another ½ box friend.  A 25lb box is $28.00 for all that sweet Georgia goodness.  Contact Doug Harley at iron361@roadrunner.com, Delivery is mid-May.

Our Interact Club members are sure enjoying this beautiful springtime weather and putting in the miles for their new fundraiser, a Hike-a-Thon.  But, they need sponsors or you can hike and sponsor yourself.  You can sign up per mile, per trail or just a general donation.   Let’s all sign up, they are a great group of young people and would love our support.  The sign up sheet is attached or email Interact President Emmie Harris at 22EmersonHarris@aos98schools.org.

We “met” Monica Churchill’s parents last week at our Thursday meeting.  Her parent’s were holocaust survivors who settled in New York City after the war.  Her father, Alfred Kantor, was a trained artist and secretly sketched the atrocities he observed and experienced in the camps.  These sketches were published as the “Book of Alfred Kantor”.  The Museum of Jewish Heritage will be featuring his work on a “Zoom” webinar on April 20th at 4PM.  Monica will speak at this presentation along with an interview of her father.  Click here to register for this event.  Thank you Monica for sharing your family with us, a truly amazing story.
