Spain to Maine

Our Clubhouse sure  was a festive, joyful and very lively place last Thursday for the Spain to Maine meeting.  Amy made some bread pudding, but our Catalonia Friends were the chefs for the rest of this fabulous dinner which included paella, potato omelet (TORTILLA DE PATATAS), and buckwheat pasta(FIDEUÁ) that was out of this world delicious.  All of the delicious food served from a magnificently decorated table.  After a raucous, but leisurely dinner there was a short program by our friends from Catalonia.  The Spirit and meaning of Rotary was alive and evident last Thursday.  “To build goodwill and better friendships”  and “Is it Fun”.

This week is another special program - Hearts of Hope.  We’re having a regular meeting, but first we’re gathering at 4:30 PM to paint some of these “Hearts of Hope”.  There is a large group of Maine Veterans going on an Honor Flight September 22-24.  The goal is to have each Veteran receive a painted heart as a thank you for their service. We’re honored to participate in this project.  But, we need painters, 4:30 at the clubhouse.  Then, we’ll have our usual meeting with a presentation by Dianne Demetriades about “Hearts of Hope”.

A big Thank You from all the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club members to the Spain to Maine Committee.  You all sure were busy last week.  They organized a really full schedule of events from visiting the Botanical Gardens, Monhegan Island trip, Lunch with the Camden Club and a private box for a Sea Dogs Game and so very much more.  Never mind hosting them in their homes during these ten days.  We are awed and grateful for the time, work and thought they put in to welcome our Catalonian Rotarians and share the beauty and uniqueness of Mid-Coast Maine.

Don’t forget to sign up for People Power.  There’s nothing so good for your heart and soul as waitering, greeting and scribing.

And also, Dues are due.  Send your check to BBH Rotary Club, PO Box 518, BH, Maine  04538.  Or leave it in the desk draw at the clubhouse.

Hope to see you this Thursday at 4:30 for “Painting with a Purpose”.
