Thank You United Way

A wonderful evening of socializing, sharing, and planning took place on Thursday evening at the Rotary Hall. President Elect Tori opened the meeting and led the pledge and Four Way Test. Our guest for the evening waw Gigi Sismanopoulos who now lives in Boothbay Harbor, formerly from Massachusetts.

Judi White stated she will be delivering fruits and vegetables to the School Street Apartments and to Edgecomb on Friday.

Billy Dodge is now a star, but we all knew that! A segment from WMTW was shown and click this LINK if you missed it!

Judy reports Bob Pike is recovering at the Veterans home, and she thinks he is doing better as he is his old cranky self again!

Doug Harley’s ’55 VW Bug won the staff award at Olde Bristol Days! Doug was asked to drive it in next year’s Windjammer Parade.

Vice President Nichole Evans was here as a member of our club and as the Development director of the United Way. Many of you may know Nichole as a new member that was inducted to our club this year and was a former member of the Brunswick club. Nichole introduced Barbara Reinertsen, the Executive Director of the United Way for the last 30 years along with Mary Ramirz and Kellie Wardman who are the facilitators of strategic planning for the United Way. Barbara states the mission of United Way is to improve lives through communities and to fund grass roots organizations such as the Boothbay Region District Nursing Association, BRCRC and New Home Midcoast. Midcoast United Way has raised and distributes 1.7 million annually. United Way is in the middle of strategic planning and asked for help from our club. She had the group break out into 3 different groups and spent 10 minutes brainstorming to answer two questions:

  1. What are top critical issues the community will be addressing in the next 5 to 10 years?

    1. Vocational Training for the Trades

    2. Transportation

    3. Affordable Housing

    4. Food Insecurity

    5. Water Issues

  1. What are community partners to do together to address those issues.

    1. Coordinate the non-profits in the area and bring them together on a regular basis (twice a year?) to collaborate on the above issues.

President Bruce, who had been at a child’s event, closed our meeting.
