Hot Time at the Rotary Barn

Can you say HOT! No shortage of heat this summer. Perfect weather for sitting in your rocking chair on the porch drinking ice cold lemonade. But, not the Rotary Club pick-up crews. Ninety degrees in the shade, no sweat. (Okay, maybe some sweat). They are still moving furniture and boxes of household goods to keep the Rotary Barn well stocked. Luckily we’re only open from 8:30 to 11:00 before the temperature skyrockets. Hat’s off and a cold bottle of water to everyone who keeps the Rotary Barn open even in this steamy weather.

A big Thank You to our community members who visit the Rotary Barn even on these hot Saturday mornings. Your donations and purchases support the many programs and projects of the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club.

Police Chief Bob Hasch

Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Bob Hasch will be our speaker this Thursday at our weekly meeting in our air conditioned clubhouse. Our community has benefitted from the leadership of Chief Hasch. He approaches his role “with a desire to effect positive change through innovative ideas and programs” , says his Linekin profile. He is always an interesting and thought provoking speaker. If you’re interested in hearing Chief Hasch and want to learn more about the work and fun of Rotary, join us for our dinner meeting at 6:00.

Charlie and Friends Second Stride Rescue

Last week Becky Abbott from Charlie and Friends Second Stride Rescue was our speaker. Burke Island Farms is the home of this wonderful non-profit that rescues horses, mules and donkeys that may be abused, slated for slaughter or are in poor living conditions. They currently have a campaign underway to raise money for a new barn. Join them at a Gala Dinner and Auction on Thursday August 18th at the Carousel Music Theater to support this cause. FMI: contact Becky at Burke Island Farm. We all enjoyed Becky’s presentation and her passion for these wonderful animals. We especially loved the pictures of the rescued horses, donkeys and mules.

Programming Committee

The newly formed Programming Committee is meeting this Thursday at 4:30 at the air-conditioned clubhouse. Join us if you have any ideas for speakers or parties or other events. This is actually a meeting of the Fun Sub Committee, but anyone is invited. Who doesn’t like fun?

Hope to see you Thursday night in our air-conditioned clubhouse. Try to stay cool till then.
