Boothbay Harbor Rotary - Recognition and Awards

The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club celebrates Veterans Day by inviting veterans, active-duty personnel and Gold Star honorees to be our guests for a special Veterans Recognition Night. This annual program started just a few years ago -- in 2006 -- but already it has grown too large for our Clubhouse. In 2009 we moved the event to the Southport Town Hall, so that more veterans could participate.

We always arrange for a special speaker. But the real stars of the evening are our veterans, actives, and Gold Star widows and mothers. They thank us for inviting them to dinner -- but mostly they thank us just for remembering the service they have rendered and the time and sacrifice they have given our nation.

In 2009, a total of 85 reservists recently returned from Iraq and World War II veterans --as well

as servicemen from every era in between -- came together at Veterans Day to hear Admiral

Jim Perkins, retired, speak about the value of service and the honor of wearing the uniform of

the United States.
